Cosplay at FanCon

 

 FanCon 2017 is a 3 day event offering wonderful cosplay opportunities over all 3 days 


Fancon 2017 Cosplay Guests

Calssara (aka Bell) is a well-known international cosplayer from Germany who has to date attended over 40 conventions and events in 33 countries across 3 continents, and will now add a 4th continent with her upcoming appearance at FanCon ! She was Germany’s representative for the World Cosplay Summit (WCS) in 2009 and 2011; represented her country in the European Cosplay Gathering (ECG), one of the biggest European cosplay competitions that takes place in Paris on Japan Expo; and won the champion title in 2012 for her country.

Kinpatsu Cosplay (Tayla Barter) is South Africa’s most well-known cosplayer, with a massive following on her social media platforms, and is recognized worldwide for her incredible talent and craftsmanship. Tayla has been cosplaying since 2012 and has cosplayed over 57 characters to date. She specializes in armoured costumes and her cosplays ranges across various genres, including gaming, anime, and western films & TV.

COSPLAY at FanCon

Dress up in your favourite costume from the world of comics, anime, gaming, genre films & TV, or pop culture in general ! If you're a novice cosplayer or an experienced cosplayer, hiring a costume or making your own, this is the event to come and strut your stuff ! Join the fun !

This of course you are welcome to do throughout the whole day and for all the 3days. Do also take note of the specific cosplay events to attend below as well as well as cosplay panel talks and workshops that will be added to our panel programme at a later stage.

      

COSPLAY MASQUERADE

Stage - Saturday 29 April (time TBC)

 Activities kick off with a cosplay masquerade on the Saturday. All cosplayers who wish to participate in the masquerade must register the character they are cosplaying and receive a number just before the masquerade begins at ( time TBC ). Cosplayers will then be called up in number sequence to pose on stage and have their official photo taken. 

Basic Rules : No real weapons, only replicas allowed. No nudity.


JUNIOR COSPLAY MASQUERADE

The cosplay masquerade will be preceded by a junior masquerade for under 13's. Spot prizes will be given to all junior cosplayers.




COSPLAY @ FanCon : A FAN'S CHOICE

All official pics of cosplayers that entered the masquerade will automatically be entered into the Cosplay @ FanCon : A Fan's Choice friendly "competition" on our facebook page during the week after FanCon. Anyone may vote for their favourite cosplayers by "liking" the pics of their choice. A Top Ten listing will be posted when the Fans Choice closes at a time/day to be confirmed. Note, there are no prizes involved in the Fans Choice, this is a fun event to gauge cosplayer favourites among fans in general.  

 



Cosplay Competitions

   

Yes, 2 comps this year ! An open cosplay competition for all levels of cosplay from newbies to the experienced on Sunday 30 April, and a competition for advanced and experienced cosplayers on Monday 1 May !

 

Both comps will have awesome prizes up for grabs ! Details to be announced.





OPEN COMPETITION – SUNDAY 30 APRIL

Recommended for all levels of cosplay

Registration Fee – R20

By entering the competition, you automatically agree to abide by the competition rules.

HOW TO ENTER

Register and collect your cosplay attendance number at the Cosplay Cape Town table on Saturday 29 April and on Sunday 30 April ( up to 2 hours before the comp starts ). Assemble at the stage before the comp begins, with your attendance number and reference pic.

INFORMATION

The competition will be judged by a panel of 3-4 judges, who will score entrants on presentation only. No pre-judging required. Judges decision is final. No late entries will be allowed.

RULES

1.       You must be 13 or older to enter.

2.       Costumes must be from the world of comics/anime/manga/gaming/movies &TV.  Costumes may be entered that are based on variations of existing characters ( e.g. a steampunk Harley Quinn ) but NO original characters are allowed.

3.       Costumes may be assembled from a mix of self-made parts & accessories as well bought/hired items.

4.       Group/duo entries will be classified as one entry, but each participant in the group/duo must register individually.

5.       Costumes may NOT include real weapons , but only replicas thereof.

6.       A reference picture of your character is mandatory.  You must bring an A4 colour printout of your reference pic to the con.

7.       No nudity or sexually explicit costumes are allowed. This is an all ages public event.

8.       Please inform the organisers asap should you wish to withdraw from the competition. Please note, cosplayers withdrawing from the competition will not be refunded.

Competition rules may be amended or adjusted as required.

ADVANCED COMPETITION – MONDAY 1 MAY

Recommended for advanced and experienced cosplayers

Registration Fee – R50

PLEASE READ THE COMPETITION RULES AND INFORMATION BELOW.

By entering the competition, you automatically agree to abide by the competition rules.

HOW TO ENTER THE COMPETITION

- register at the show on Saturday or Sunday at the Cosplay Cape Town table, or on Sunday 1 May from 10am-11am. On a first come first come served basis select a pre-judging time slot for the Monday morning. No late entries will be allowed.

- make yourself available for PRE-JUDGING at the cosplay table on Monday in your allotted slot. You must have your attendance number and reference pics with you.

- assemble at the stage before the comp begins at (TBC)

    COMPETITION RULES AND INFORMATION

INFORMATION :

The competition will be judged by a panel of 3-4 judges, who will score entrants on creativity, craftsmanship, accuracy, attention to detail , and presentation. Judges decision is final. No late entries will be allowed.

All 10 finalists will receive a certificate of recognition. There will also be certificates of recognition for Best Cosplay Prop and Best In-Character Cosplayer !  Certificates of recognition will also be issued for best cosplay in the following categories : Comics, Anime & Manga, Gaming, Movies & TV.

RULES :

1. You must be thirteen or older to enter. 

2. Costumes must be from the world of comics/anime/manga/gaming/movies &TV.  Costumes may be entered that are based on variations of existing characters ( e.g. a steampunk Harley Quinn ) but NO original characters are allowed. Note, you must have relevant reference pic of your character.

3. Costumes may not be bought or hired. Particular parts , accessories and props may be purchased, but the costume as a whole must be self-made (at least 75%). Hired and bought costumes are only allowed for casual cosplay and entry to the cosplay masquerade.

4. Costumes that have won, or placed in any position in previous cosplay competitions, will not be allowed. (Note : If you do enter both comps with the same costume, and you place on the Sunday then you will automatically be disqualified from the Monday comp)

5. Group/duo entries will be classified as one entry, but each participant in the group/duo must register individually.

6. Costumes may NOT include real weapons , but only replicas thereof.
7. If any part of your costume is deemed a safety / health hazard, it will not be allowed.

8. Reference pics of your character is mandatory.  You must bring at least three A4 colour printouts of your reference pics to the con. (showing front , side & back)

9. No nudity or sexually explicit costumes are allowed. This is an all ages public event.

10. Please inform the organisers asap should you wish to withdraw from the competition. Please note, entrants withdrawing from the competition will not be refunded their registration fee.

11. Entrants must make themselves available for pre-judging on Monday 1 May in their allotted time slot. This is essential so that you can be scored properly. Your reference pics are essential for this.

12. Competition starts at (TBC) and winners will be announced between (TBC).
